Notice of URFMS Transition and Equipment Reassignment

Departmental Transition: Department of Chemistry (CHEM) and Department of Life Sciences (LS)

Dear Users,

As part of the restructuring of the former Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT), two new departments have been established:

• Department of Chemistry (CHEM)
• Department of Life Sciences (LS)

To ensure uninterrupted operation, the existing ABCT-URFMS platform will remain available until the new departmental URFMS systems (URFMS-CHEM and URFMS-LS) become active on 11 August 2026 at 7:00 a.m.

Launch of New URFMS Platforms

Effective: 11 August 2026, 7:00 a.m.

Equipment currently registered under ABCT-URFMS will be transferred to ONE of the following platforms:

Department of Chemistry (CHEM) – URFMS-CHEM

Website: https://urfms.polyu.edu.hk/facilities/CHEM

Department of Life Sciences (LS) – URFMS-LS

Website: https://urfms.polyu.edu.hk/facilities/LifeSci

Booking Arrangements

To support a smooth transition:

• All existing ABCT-URFMS users will automatically be granted access to both URFMS-CHEM and URFMS-LS from 11 August 2026.
• Equipment bookings will continue to be free of charge for both CHEM and LS users.
• Existing payment source accounts will remain valid on both platforms.
• Users should ensure they select the correct system (URFMS-CHEM or URFMS-LS) when making bookings after the transition.

Important reminder for Booking Cut-off date and time

To facilitate data migration and prevent booking conflicts, please do not create new reservations in the existing ABCT-URFMS system on or after 11 August 2026 at 7:00 a.m.

Cut-off Date: 11 August 2026, 7:00 a.m.

Any bookings required after this time must be made through the new platform AFTER 11 August 2026, 7:00 am:

• URFMS-CHEM: https://urfms.polyu.edu.hk/facilities/CHEM
• URFMS-LS: https://urfms.polyu.edu.hk/facilities/LifeSci
